Prevent users from being double-booked across multiple rotations.
What is Overlap Prevention?
When the same person is part of multiple rotations, they can end up being assigned overlapping shifts. Overlap Prevention detects these conflicts and automatically skips the double-booked user, assigning the shift to the next available person instead.
How to configure
- Go to Home tab: Learn where to find Rotation App’s Home tab
- Open your rotation’s menu and select ⚖️ Balancing & Availability.
- Open Overlap Prevention by pressing Configure.
- Select the rotations you want to check for overlaps against. You can link one or more rotations from the same team.
- Save to apply.
Linking is bidirectional — if you link Rotation A to Rotation B, Rotation B will also check for overlaps with Rotation A.
How it works
When a shift is about to be assigned, the system checks if the next user in the queue is already on-call in any of the linked rotations during the same time window. If there’s a conflict, that user is skipped and the shift goes to the next available person.
This also works with Proactive Adjustments, when a linked rotation’s schedule changes, the queue is automatically updated to resolve any new overlaps.
